Logical
OR function playground
Returns TRUE when at least one condition is TRUE.
The playground runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
How OR works
OR works out each condition and returns TRUE if any one of them is TRUE. It is FALSE only when every condition is FALSE.
Combine with IF to act on either condition: =IF(OR(D2<0.8,B2<60),"Follow up","").
Syntax
=OR(logical1, [logical2], ...)| Argument | What it means |
|---|---|
logical1required | The first condition. |
logical2, ...optional | More conditions. |
Examples
| Formula | What it does | Result |
|---|---|---|
=OR(B2>=90,C2>=90) | TRUE if either test is 90 or more. | TRUE · FALSE · FALSE · FALSE … |
=OR(D2<0.8,B2<60) | Low attendance or a low first test. | FALSE · FALSE · FALSE · TRUE … |
=IF(OR(D2<0.8,B2<60),"Follow up","") | Flag students who need a follow-up. | "" · "" · "" · Follow up … |
Common mistakes
Comparing one cell to several valuesB2="A" OR "B" is not valid. Write OR(B2="A",B2="B").
Confusing AND and ORAND needs every condition; OR needs just one.
