Logical
AND function playground
Returns TRUE only when every condition is TRUE.
The playground runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
How AND works
AND works out each condition. If all of them are TRUE the result is TRUE; a single FALSE makes the whole thing FALSE.
AND is most useful inside IF: =IF(AND(B2>=70,C2>=70),"Pass","Retake").
Syntax
=AND(logical1, [logical2], ...)| Argument | What it means |
|---|---|
logical1required | The first condition, such as B2>=70. |
logical2, ...optional | More conditions. |
Examples
| Formula | What it does | Result |
|---|---|---|
=AND(B2>=70,C2>=70) | TRUE when both tests are 70 or more. | TRUE · FALSE · TRUE · FALSE … |
=AND(B2>=70,C2>=70,D2>=0.9) | Add an attendance condition. | TRUE · FALSE · TRUE · FALSE … |
=IF(AND(B2>=70,C2>=70),"Pass","Retake") | Turn the TRUE/FALSE into words. | Pass · Retake · Pass · Retake … |
Common mistakes
Writing 70<=B2<=90Excel doesn't chain comparisons. Use AND(B2>=70,B2<=90).
Text in the testText that isn't TRUE or FALSE causes #VALUE!.
