Pivot charts, slicers & simple dashboards

A PivotChart turns the same summary into a picture, and a slicer turns that picture into something a non-spreadsheet person can filter themselves — click a button instead of hunting through a dropdown.

What you're learning

PivotChart basics
Built straight from a PivotTable — filter or regroup the table and the chart updates with it.
Slicers
Clickable buttons for one field — insert a slicer for Region and anyone can filter the whole view without touching a dropdown.
Timelines
A slicer built specifically for date fields — drag to select a date range instead of picking individual months.
Dashboard layout discipline
Group related charts together, keep a consistent size and spacing, and leave visual breathing room.
Titles that explain the view
"Sales" tells you nothing a chart doesn't already show — "Sales by Region, Q4" tells you what changed and when.
Avoiding clutter
Every extra gridline, 3-D effect, or unnecessary legend is one more thing between the reader and the answer.

Guided practice

Click Region and Category chips to filter — the chart rebuilds from whatever's still selected.

Sales by category — all regions, all categories.

Independent variation

Build a one-page summary

Build a PivotChart with at least two slicers over data you actually track. Give it a title that states what it shows and for what period, and remove anything — gridlines, extra legends, a second chart type — that doesn't help the reader answer the question faster.
